The Madeira Silk Embroidery Floss is a high quality 100% pure silk 4-stand floss. It comes in 108 brilliant colors that are wash fast. It is a durable silk that is easy to work with for many applications such as needlework including cross-stitching, quilting, smocking and other precious work for which the highest quality silk floss is required. It is packed in a spiral in a little plastic bag 1 7/8" wide by 4 5/8" tall (4.8 cm by 12 cm). The thread is pulled simply by cutting a 'V' at the bottom of the spiral pack. This clever method keeps the thread clean and tangle free. It allows to pull out exactly the amount of thread needed without any extra work such as winding the floss on a card prior to use.

5m (5.5 yards) on each card. The floss diameter is about 0.5mm. The 4 strand can be easily separated. Each strand has a soft 2-ply S twist. Made in Germany.

Personal note :: I use this thread for half hitching in free-form cavandoli and micro-macrame knotting it over nylon #18 and C-Lon Bead Cord. I combine it with other silks such as the Kanagawa 1000 Denier Embroidery Silk and other hand dyed silks. I like the color range, the feel of the silk and its luster. It is soft to work with yet durable. This floss is sturdy and can handle manipulation when knotted unlike many other flosses. The quality of this thread makes it a pleasure to work with. Dyelot are noticeable so order accordingly as the colors do not always match the color card!
