LINEN
Linen - Why is it a good choice for jewelry making? Linen is made out of the fibers from flax plants. Linen is incredibly strong, long lasting, natural, and easy to clean. It dries quickly and does not retain moisture, making it a cool choice for jewelry for hot weather. Linen becomes softer with wash and wear, but rest assured that the linen selected here are already incredibly soft. It is the high fashion natural alternative to hemp cord.
Flax is considered an endangered plant in North America. Efforts are being made in various part of the country to promote growing flax and to process its fibers into linen. Chico Flax, Flax and Linen of Northern California, a local organization, here in Chico California is promoting its culture and harvesting. Learning about the process to go from seeds to yarn gave me an appreciation for ready made linen yarn and braided tape!
